Main Responsibilities
Responsible for managing and coordinating the multi-discipline commercialization process of South East Asia product development projects and cost savings initiatives. The specific duties include technical feasibility assessment, design optimization, cost/schedule management, risk assessment/mitigation, project communication, and on-going production support. The role will also provide sourcing support through technical interaction with potential suppliers and provide product concept alternatives directly to the company based on suppliers’ core competencies.
- Manages the South East Asia commercialization process by working cross-functionally with Company technical teams and directly with suppliers in response to new product launches.
- Responsible for coordinating Engineering pilots to Company specifications and providing solutions to product design challenges along with detailed responses to the Company.
- Works with the supplier to accelerate the development of critical items through problem-solving to keep the beginning project timeline.
- Acts as the technical liaison in South East Asia between the Company’s functional areas including Marketing, Engineering, Production, and Purchasing departments, as well as outside vendors to ensure proper specifications and timeliness of projects. Evaluate and resolve technical feasibility, design optimization, and production issues.
- Supporting QA and suppliers in problem-solving during the production process
- Find out the potential solutions to help reduce the manufacturing cost.
Requirements
- At least 5 years of experience in plastic injection mold design or plastic injection molding production.
- Knowledge of, or experience with, the following processes will help understand the Company's business. (Manufacturing/assembly processes – manual and automated; Injection molding; Injection blow molding, Thermoforming, Blister sealing; Sonic Welding, Gluing, joining, pencil-sharpening, Printing/print press control)
- Experience in Supply Chain planning for an International Consumer Products company including knowledge of one or more of these specific product types will help understand the Company's business. (Writing Instruments (i.e. Markers, pens, pencils); Paint/ink production; Compounds (i.e. Clay, Dough, Putty); Printed/bound items (i.e. books, paper); Activity sets; Toy items)
- Experience in the Engineering functions related to CPG (Consumer Packaged Goods) new product development and manufacturing.
o Familiarity with product & ethical compliance standards including ACMI, ISO, ICTI
o Familiarity with the Engineering Product New Product Turnover process.
o Experience in leading efforts and troubleshooting factory issues related to New Product piloting (i.e.First Shots, EP, FEP, PP).
o Project Management Experience - managing and reporting against milestones.
o Ability to evaluate product drawings (i.e. CAD) & detailed specifications then work with the supplier’s technical leads to optimize the design & ultimately execute the product launch.
o Experience in Value Engineering and Cost Management.
- Experience in supporting Sourcing activities
o Ability to evaluate quotations including detailed cost drivers and provide cost engineering estimates.
o Provide supplier assessments for competitive manufacturing alternatives of existing products.
o Provide insights into manufacturers’ core competencies to serve as potential new product alternatives for the Company.
- Experience working as an intermediary or directly with CPG manufacturers/suppliers.
o Ability in design and production risk assessments to propose the design or tool improvement before production starts.
o Ability to review the injection mold DFM and mold design to propose improvements before tooling starts.
o Ability to negotiate/resolve issues with supplier leadership and technical staff.
o Ability to effectively communicate and train about the product quality, specification, and method requirements to factory management/labor
o A3/structured problem solving & root cause analysis
o Supplier development – capable of providing guidance and/or recommendations.
o Lean/Six Sigma training or certification
