Material Buyer Job Description

Our client designs, develops, and manufactures professional instrumentation used by some of the world’s top brands in the fields of industrial, environmental, and scientific measurements. They mainly focus on Original Design Manufacturing (ODM), which means they design new products for their customers based on the solid foundation of core competencies in engineering, manufacturing, supply chain, and quality.  They are one of the largest ODM companies in Taiwan that specialize in handheld instruments.

The Material Buyer is responsible for all Raw Goods (RG) material purchasing and coordination with suppliers through delivery to factory in Vietnam.

Objectives of this role

- Ensuring the correct RG materials are purchased from suppliers by utilizing component drawings, part numbers, and other documentation.

- Ensuring negotiated RG pricing, MOQ, and payment terms properly support Vietnam’s business objectives.

- Ensuring RG delivery meets production planning requirements.

- Ensuring RG inventory levels are properly balanced between production availability and acceptable inventory costs.

- Tracking purchased RG deliveries from shipment through receipt.

- Ensuring all RG inventory is properly documented in the ERP system (or equivalent system).

- Assisting QA in resolving RG nonconformances.

- Assisting Engineering in properly documenting new and updated components.

- Establishing and maintaining strong supplier relationships.

- Critical skills

+ Organization and consistency – As a Material Buyer, you must purchase and track many RG orders. You must maintain strong organization and consistency for each order to ensure accurate delivery and payment.

+ Documentation – As a Material Buyer, you must issue Purchase Orders, receive supplier invoices, and participate in the payment process (upon confirmation of RG receipt to match against invoices).

+ Flexibility and change management – As a Material Buyer, you will face changing POs and adjusting quantities and delivery schedules based on changing production requirements. This requires flexibility and direct coordination with suppliers to modify initial orders.

- Professional Experience

+ Experience as a Material Buyer for EE and ME components is a strong plus. 

+ Experience as a Sourcing Agent is also a strong plus. 

- Required skills and qualifications

+ Understanding of Purchase Order and Invoice processes is required. 

+ Willingness to visit supplier factories is required. 

+ Ability to work independently is required. 

+ Vietnamese language fluency.

+ English or Chinese language proficiency is a strong plus.
